Abstract / Description of output
This paper examines the background to and nature of the central provisions of the 1988 UN Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances designed to promote and facilitate the interdiction of drug shipments by sea. The drafting history of Article 17 of that Convention also throws light on continuing differences of view among States as to the jurdical nature of the Exclusive Economic Zone and the powers of coastal States within adjacent contiguous zones.
