Abstract / Description of output

As I am now coming to the end of a three year stint as an associate editor at Ethical Theory and Moral Practice, I am struck by how the articles it publishes often implicitly question the intellectual partitions familiar in philosophy and other disciplines. These partitions include the distinctions among the metaethical, the normative, and the applied; between the political and the moral; between the analytical and the critical; among the interpersonal, the social, and the global; and (though the journal’s articles always offer significant ethical conclusions) between the descriptive and evaluative. This approach has made the journal an important catalyst in the emergence of ‘practical philosophy,’ a mode of scholarly inquiry that attempts to understand ethical phenomena in a multifaceted way.
