Since January 2012, data protection lawyers have had a taste of what it is like to enjoy the infamous “15minutes of fame” once demanded for everyone by pop artist Andy Warhol. What has traditionally been seen as a quiet, unassuming discipline that was tucked away in some nook or cranny of the much greater subject area that is IT law, shot to prominence when the European Commission published it proposal for a new General Data Protection Regulation designed to revise the current EU data protection framework.
