Abstract

In a sample of 18 superluminal quasars with lower limits of the jet outflow angle (th) between 0 and 30 degrees, and with Ha line emission we find: 1) a positive correlation between line velocity width at half maximum (FWHM) and th, implying a ratio of planar to random broad line region (BLR) motions to be ˜ 10:1, and 2) a positive correlation between the line equivalent width (EW) and th. The slope of this trend is stronger than the expected by a geometrical thin disc, while the strong flat trend of EW with the Doppler factor, rules out an important optical relativistic beaming in the 15 strong lined objects. The beaming found in these objects might be due to a geometrical thick disc, or/and, to an increasing of the optical absorption with th.
