Abstract

In this paper, we bring Dewey into conversation with Federico García Lorca. In doing so, on the one hand, we aim to explore the educative potential of Lorca's notion of the duende as an aesthetic experience. On the other hand, we seek to draw from Lorca’s poetic account of the search for the duende to reflect on the potential and desirability of aesthetic experience, art and play to bring about radical, rather than gradual, societal change.
