Abstract
A low complexity scheme for estimating frequency offset using only the Primary Synchronisation Channel (P-SCH) in UMTS 3rd generation (3G) mobile systems is presented. This may be particularly useful during handover between cells and for location estimation as the complete suite of cell search algorithms is not required. It is shown that this estimator can provide a highly accurate frequency offset estimate in less than 1 second.
