Abstract / Description of output
My chapter is the opening and mapping of a creative process, not with a desire to control but to inquire into how the writing-body and the writer-body are produced and differentiated. To do this, I draw on Simondon's (2020) concept of the polyphasal to help me to understand the writer as a complex and dynamic entity that is constantly evolving and emergent. Deleuze and Guattari suggest that the thought process is a long and hidden preparation towards expression. Throughout Difference and Repetition (1994), Deleuze makes apparent that the tracing of thought should be centred on its emergent underground developments rather than the explicit statements that emerge. For this reason, I trace the writing-in-process that happens before the words arrive on the page, digging underground with muddy fingers for what earths and gives rise to writing. St.
Pierre picks up on the length of this process when she writes, "The long preparation for post-qualitative inquiry is reading, thinking, writing, and living with theory in "experimentation in contact with the real" (Deleuze & Guattari, 1980/1987, p.12)" (2018, 64). This essay is an expression of such experimentation.
