Gadda Goes to War: Translational Provocations around an Emergency

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract / Description of output

By selective translational provocations, the book introduces Italy’s greatest modernist writer Carlo Emilio Gadda (1893-1973) from five key perspectives – Circulation, Translation, Staging, Worldmaking and Resources – with further scholarly back-up coming through a themed Global Glossary, an Appendix on Gadda’s sensorial fascism and an extensive Bibliography. The English translation of Fabrizio Gifuni’s award-winning drama “Gadda Goes to War” is presented in Part II of the book with facing Italian, and is accompanied by the DVD of the Italian performance with English subtitles. The resulting tool – both flexible teaching / learning aid and compact companion-style gateway into state-of-the-art criticism on our author – fills a gap in the current provision by relaunching provision altogether. A new principle, a new dissemination concept needed to be explored in this instance, as Gadda challenges all available existing research formats, forcing one to take the initiative in the otherwise settled business of resourcing others through scholarly activities.
