Abstract / Description of output
This feature article on Georg Baselitz discusses a major touring exhibition (Basel and Washington DC) that surveys over sixty years of work by this towering figure of post-war German art. The article is also based on an interview conducted by the author with the artist in his Bavarian studio in May 2018. Weikop shows that while Baselitz rejects the label ‘neo-Expressionist’, twentieth-century German art provides a telling context for understanding the work of a painter who is still energetically developing new artistic approaches.
