Abstract

This chapter illustrates the impact of Emerging Market Champions such as Haier from China and their ultimate impact on oligopolistic rivalry in the global 'domestic' appliance industry. Haier's global strategies are examined in detail, and oligopolistic effects including cross-border moves and countermoves. Drawing on the full panoply of global oligopoly analysis techniques, the chapter highlights strategic implications for advanced country incumbents such as Whirlpool.
