Abstract

Grove - Stobhill Hospital; A series of permanent artworks installed within the new build Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow, with the artists Ken Dingwall, Olwen Shone and Andreas Karl Shulze made in response to text works by Thomas A Clark. Project managed by Reiach and Hall Architects & Chris Fremantle. Commissioned by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Applying a conceptual approach to landscape representation the works examine the therapeutic aspect of contemporary art within an architectural healthcare context. The Sanctuary is a specific space which I designed as an archetectonic work to address space for multi faith spirituality.
The project was accompanied by the publication SPACE TO HEAL - Humanity in Healthcare Design. ISBN 978 0 955 6148 1 1 and was presented as Workshop leader; Spiritual Care, A Design Approach to the Healthcare Environment at the NHS, Spiritual Care and Health, Improving Outcome and Enhancing Well-being International Conference, 13th & 14th March 2012, The Beardmore Conference Centre, Glasgow.
The work, A GAELIC ALPHABET, comprising 18 drawings, was reproduced and further exhibited in solo- exhibitions in An Lanntair, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and internationally at Galerija Insula, Insula, Slovenia in 2012.
A further work, 'LEWIS: VENUS' was commissioned by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde for the Ward Block at the New Stobhill Hospital. This work is reproduced in the publication THE GRACE OF BIRCH - Art Nature Healing, 2011
