Guanidine anions as chelating ligands; Syntheses and crystal structures of [Rh(eta-C(5)Me(5)){eta(2)-(NPh)(2)CNHPh}Cl] and [Ru(eta-MeC(6)H(4)Pr(i)-p)-{eta(2)-(NPh)(2)CNHPh}Cl]

Treatment of the chloro-bridged dimers [{Rh(eta-C(5)Me(5))Cl-2}(2)] and [{Ru(eta-MeC(6)H(4)Pr(i)-p)Cl-2}(2)] with 1,2,3-triphenylguanidine in toluene solution led to the formation of [Rh(eta-C(5)Me(5)){eta(2)-(NPh)(2)CNHPh}Cl] 1 and [Ru(eta-MeC(6)H(4)Pr(i)-p){eta(2)-(NPh)(2)CNHPh}Cl] 2 respectively. These represent the first examples of complexes containing guanidine anions as chelating ligands. Crystal structure analyses of bath complexes have been performed.
