Abstract

Hirda was composed by Gareth Williams, in collaboration with Chris Stout, a Shetland fiddler and composer, with a libretto written by Sian Evans, commissioned and produced by NOISE Opera, and directed by James Robert Carson.

The libretto was written in Shetlandic dialect, with help and support from members of the Shetland folk music and story-telling tradition. the opera was performed across the Shetland Isles in the community halls, before performances in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
