Abstract

This experimental documentary film traces the activities of participants in a performance residency as they re-imagine signs from screen interfaces as prompts for embodied response. The events take place at Fondazione Bonotto, Veneto, Italy, over the course of a week in November 2022. A series of improvisations and conversations about interaction via digital devices develops against the backdrop of the Bonotto collection of experimental scores and concrete poetry. Seminal works by intermedia artists of the mid 20th century including Yoko Ono, George Brecht, Alison Knowles, Allan Kaprow and Bici Forbes, provide points of reference for the development of new post-digital performance strategies.

Hummingbirds and Hamburgers is an international, interdisciplinary research exchange across Performance Art, Interaction Design and Community Practice. The project was initiated by Christine Ellison and has been developed with Erato Tzavara (Community Arts educator, Athens), Dr Nicholas Ward (Interaction Design educator, University of Limerick) and Lost Movement Collective (NL).
