Abstract

This paper presents a numerical evaluation of the frequency characteristics in the bridge response to moving trainloads under a variety of parameter combinations. A computational model is developed to simulate the combined bridge-moving carriages system, where the moving mass is coupled with the bridge through surface contact. The model is verified by comparison with field measurement data and theoretical predictions. Parametric studies are carried out to lead to a clear identification of the varying trend of the frequency contents and the governing parameters. The results can be useful for the evaluation and mitigation of the bridge resonance and the dynamic responses, especially concerning high speed trains, in addition to assisting the interpretation of the railway bridge dynamic response data for structural monitoring and assessment purposes.
