Abstract

Imitate is a practice based output and is a new body of artefacts by Jessamy Kelly. This series of art glass works were inspired by a group workshop and symposium which was held at Edinburgh College of Art in June 2016. From this the Imitate artworks were created especially for the Like a Rolling Stone contemporary Jewellery exhibition (2017-2018). Glass as an artistic medium has a unique ability to imitate other materials; cross-pollinating with other disciplines to refresh and recreate itself. The creative possibilities of creating glass which imitates other materials such as ceramic, fabric, paper, bone, metal, wood, stone, plastic and semi-precious stones are vast. In this series, Kelly has explored the capacity of glass to imitate onyx, Jade, topaz and amythest. The works are made from kiln cast glass which has been lost wax cast, and then diamond cut and brush polished, she also developed a new range of work made from bronze.
