Abstract / Description of output
A live performance at the Reid Concert Hall in Edinburgh with musicians of Edimpro improvising music against the backdrop of animations by John Brown and Colin Lawson. The animations were painted stills that were merged by Chante St Clair Inglis to make films that were approximately 20 minutes long. The musicians had had a practice run with a rough cut but, for the most part, were responding to the films anew as well as improvising along with what was happening in the group of musicians in that give moment.
John Brown's film starts with simple primordial shapes floating in space that gradually increase in number and gradually transmute into more recognizable elements. The pace of the imagery dictated dramatic shifts in what was happening with the improvised music.
