Abstract

Working memory (WM) is a key component of human cognition that develops
drastically during childhood. Before the age of 7 years, the absence of use of
maintenance strategies accounts for poor WM performance. Nonetheless, visual
working memory in 5- to 7-yr-old children could benefit from visual support. The present study examined in 3 experiments how different visual supports could help preschoolers to implement maintenance strategies.
