Abstract / Description of output

An invited talk at the 2022 'Asia-Pacific Forum on Green and Low-carbon Development', held on 8-9 September 2022 in Changsha, Hunan, China

This talk gives an overview of the applications, the value and the challenges of utilisation of grid-scale energy storage, within the context of the modern power grid and considering the emerging challenges of energy generation, transmission and utilisation.

A novel valuation method is presented, the Market Potential Valuation Method, which allows a holistic techno economic analysis that helps determine the overall value of energy storage in a power system. The usability and performance of the method is illustrated through a case study for a zero-carbon European energy supply by 2030.

The talk is an overview of the research conducted by the Agile Energy Systems Research Group at the School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh.
