Abstract
This map is part of the "Repairs. Réparations, compensations et indemnités au titre de l'esclavage (Europe-Amériques-Afrique) (XIXe-XXIe)" funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The Repairs project is supported by three institutions: CIRESC, the International Research Centre on Slavery and Post-Slavery (CNRS); ISJPS, the Institute of Legal and Philosophical Sciences at the Sorbonne (Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, CNRS); URMIS, the Migration and Societies Research Unit (IRD, CNRS, Université de Paris, Université Côte d'Azur).
It maps :
- the financial "indemnities" awarded by states at the time of abolition, and the accompanying measures
- reparations", which are contemporary claims of various kinds (symbolic, cultural, memorial, financial, etc.). Reparations question the continuity of the effects of slavery in terms of the racialisation of social relations, the denunciation of historical injustices, inequalities in access to resources/rights, and so on.
