Abstract

Intermissions is a series of 4 separate, short videos made with Scottish ethnographic archive recordings from the School of Scottish Studies Sound Archive, University of Edinburgh. Voices recount everyday events and experiences linked in the speakers’ personal ways to the themes of selfhood, remembrance, exile, and control. These inserts were made specifically for, and placed individually throughout, Say-so, a screening of artists' film I curated around these themes. Placing individual memories within this screening programme set out to explore the precarious dynamics between the local and the global, the ordinary and the transformative, the communal and the authoritative.

Say-so was commissioned by Claire Walsh and Suzanne van der Lingen, guest editors of MAP magazine, for Glasgow Film Festival 2016.
