Abstract / Description of output

Focusing on selected issues in Latin American International Family Law (IFL), this chapter builds on the emerging literature on Private International Law (PIL) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It examines how overarching policies (such as global solidarity, inclusivity and gender equality) and particular fundamental rights (i.e. the right to live a life free of violence), as articulated in the Agenda’s targets, shape the understanding of IFL, and, in turn, how IFL can contribute to the advancement of the SDGs set forth in the 2030 Agenda. It demonstrates that IFL can strengthen the SDGs action plan, and that it provides valuable examples of judicial and administrative cooperation models that could be considered beyond IFL, in other fields where PIL coordination is an outmost necessity.
