Intimate Relationship Satisfaction As a Potential Moderator of the Longitudinal Association between Stress and Depression

Abstract

In a large probability sample of married Americans, (a) stress and relationship satisfaction w ere each uniquely associated with residual change in depressive symptoms, and (b) relationship satisfaction did not moderate the association between stress and depression. Results underscore the need for examining both environmental and interpersonal factors in understanding depression.
