Mechanical metamaterials are a special breed of cellular solid with properties that are guided by the geometrical construction of solid matter, rather than solely by its composition. This feature article will highlight some of our recent advancements in the design and potential utility of mechanical metamaterials where the folding and cutting of sheet material constitutes the primary basis for design.
