Abstract

This chapter introduces the conceptualisation of ‘language policy as practice’ and the ensuing notion of ‘practiced language policy’. It situates the ‘practical’ approach to language policy research within the Empirical turn. This chapter clarifies what is meant by ‘practice’ in the notion of ‘language policy as practice’ and sets out the foundations to investigate practiced language policies. It also shows how the present volume contributes to advancing the Empirical turn in Language Policy research and how it can also be articulated with the field of multilingualism. It then presents the aims of the volume, its ambitions, and highlights the key contributions of each chapter.
