Abstract / Description of output

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines innovations in public management. It discusses the role and use of a corporate vision in a public organization. The book defines what public needs an organization will fulfil and to use an overview to prioritise among wants and among stakeholders. It deals with the phenomenon of strategizing. The book presents a reflective approach to change management and recognises the human elements in change programmes. It addresses four different management practices in a reflective manner. The book provides a rethinking of performance management. It presents guidance on several design questions that arise when performance measurement is used for such a purpose, and discusses what might realistically be expected from such use. The book explores public procurement. Reviewing the challenges of public procurement makes it possible to see a potential to use these processes as a vehicle for change.
