Abstract
The essay considers how art has proceeded in relation to the new demands posed by immigration since Benjamin Buchloh's landmark essay 'Conceptual Art 1962-1969: From the Aesthetics of Administration to the Critique of Institutions' (1990). The essay takes as its focus Olafur Eliasson's work Green Light, focusing on its concept rather than its realisation (also as part of the Venice Biennial). The argument reflects on the inability of art, despite artists' intentions, to be ultimately situated within public discourse.
