Abstract
Journeyman is a suite of pieces exploring approaches to composition for mobile devices. It exploits the complex array of sensing devices on contemporary mobile phones to perform pieces in real-time as the listener moves around. The pieces can be presented live at concerts, but were designed for a single listener with headphones.
Three pieces were made exploring different sound processing, spatialisation and synthesis techniques;
- Gallery Edition, made to accompany exploration of an exhibition of visual art at Talbot Rice Gallery.
- Scanning the Archive, using the audio archive of the Conference on World Affairs in Boulder, Colorado
- Unsettled and Oversensitve, making use of synthesis techniques to reflect the persistent anxiety caused by always-on social connections.
