KIOSK

'KIOSK' represents an ongoing series of works (artefacts) first iterated within a conference paper delivered at 'Institutions, Politics, Performance', Green Park, Athens, Greece, in 2015. Works from this series have been presented at 'Reading Architecture' Stirling University (2015)/ 'Intersection', Scottish Architectural Fringe (2017)/ 'Make-Shift', Collyer Bristow Gallery, London (2017-18). A conference paper was presented at 'Art, Materiality & Representation', British Museum, London, June 2018, and a solo exhibition of the Kiosk works is confirmed for April 2020 at the Museum of Ideas, lviv, Ukraine. These works comprise a series of architectural models focusing on the vernacular characteristics of the street kiosk, the intensity of nuance & detail intended to prompt reflection on aspects of time, use, history & condition. The kiosk is used as a metaphor for the fragile nature of small scale commerce and community, their circumstances representative of the growing trend towards generic global systems of production, consumption and communication.In a wider sense, without the permanence afforded larger buildings, kiosks are analogous of our own transient lives, small entities within a larger social and cultural context.
