Abstract
The major publishing houses announced that most academic journals are now in a “transformative” state, which means that they will gradually increase the quota of papers in Open Access (OA) towards a full transition to OA. As a result, publishing academic papers will cost necessarily several thousand Euro. Authors or their institutions will have to endure these costs. Understandably, the academic world protests, but the decision of the publishing houses is consistent with the Academy's long-standing request for full OA. A discussion on the unintended consequences of OA is overdue.
