Abstract
The article focuses on the works of the Italian contemporary writer Mauro Covacich and more particularly discusses issues related to autobiographical writing, autofiction, performance art and self-fashioning. The author aims to consider Covacich’s works – including even a video-performance – as examples of a new trend in Italian contemporary fiction, which challenges the end of Postmodernism and expresses the need to find out new forms of narrative consistency. Autofiction as a genre will be discussed against a wider theoretical backdrop and in comparison with autobiography, factual narrative and performance art. The author will show how Covacich, despite some ambivalences, tries to use a mixture of factual and fictional narrative as a critical tool for inquiring the self.
