Abstract / Description of output
Heritage created by and for the war can be a good tool if we want to explain the conflict that generated it. This idea is present in the rising of new museum initiatives related to poliorcetic environments (walls, fortifications, citadels), but the situation is quite different if we focus on a singular type of war heritage, currently unprotected and forgotten: battlefields.
This paper tries to analyze particular features of this type of heritage, so important and, at the same time, so intangible. It proofs that it’s necessary to make a deep study about the battlefield, applying new archaeological techniques in order to comprehend and show it to the public on a proper way.
Finally, it shows the potential of the battlefield as academic and touristic item, as unique and unrepeatable heritage.
