Las defensas de Constantinopla

Few cities in the ancient world had the strategic importance of the New Rome founded by Constantine I the Great (306-337) on the Bosphorus, and consecrated in 330. Located on a unique conjunction of sea and land routes between the European and Asian provinces of the Empire, the city would remain virtually impregnable for around a millennium. This would be possible thanks to an extensive and powerful system of defenses that, both surrounding the city itself and its immediate environment, as well as part of the surrounding region, protected it from the endless threats that fell on it by land and sea, from the four cardinal points.
