Abstract

A commissioned and refereed chapter discussing the possible forms of critical comparison between a fictional 'biography' in short story form and the biography of a Scottish eighteenth-century poet, when 'influence' cannot provide a connecting link. This chapter contributes to a volume of critical essays on Scotland and the Nineteenth-Century World and aims to provide a methodological strategy in opetics for transatlantic comparison
