Abstract / Description of output
Marco Pantani was arguably the greatest Italian Cyclist of the modern era. In 1998 he became a national hero when he won the two most prestigious races in the cycling calendar, the Giro D’Italia and the Tour De France. Five years later he was found dead and drug-ridden in a lonely Rimini hotel room. What drives a man to the pinnacle of professional cycling, yet leads him to the depths of squalor and despair? “The Pirate” traces Marco’s journey from the poverty of his upbringing in the streets of Cesena, to his ultimate tragic end at the cruelly early age of 34.
