Abstract

In April 2002, Petra Kuppers and Sophia Lycouris met in Rhode Island, USA, to explore a number of performance questions in a workshop format. The result was Body Provisional, presented as a sharing at the Perishable Theatre, Providence, Rhode Island, April 21 and again, in a further developed format, at Arthur's Dress Shop, on the lower east side in New York City, April 26. This performance conversation investigates the relationship between content and format in an improvisational performance environment. Based on the body, the show takes off from the private into other realms, allowing an interweaving of voices, presences, ghosts of pasts and future. Objects oscillate on the edges of materiality and meaning.
