Abstract

Delivery of illustrated lecture 'Micro Makes Macro', at "Intitutions, Politics, Performance" conference held at Pedion Tou Areos ( Green Park ), Athens, Greece, from 24-28 September 2015. The conference brought together participants for interdisciplinary discourse on politics and artistic production which negotiates with institutions through experimental praxes from within & beyond them, challenging accepted institutional practice (cultural, political, economic) through theoretical debate and articulation of artistic practice.Keynote speakers included Athena Athanassiou ( University of Political & Social Sciences, Athens ), Denise Ferreira Da Silva, ( Queen Mary's University, London ), Stefano Harney ( University of Singapore ), Isabell Lorey ( European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies ).Held over 5 days, conference participants included academics, artists, architects, playwrights, curators & social historians.Charlie Stiven's contribution, 'Micro Makes Macro' concentrated on both his own artistic practice as a critique on institutional behaviour ( political & economic ),and outlined educational & creative strategies which challenge the neo liberal practice of 'dumbing down'.
