Abstract
The time-dependent microwave heating of a semi-infinite material, which is governed by a coupled system of Maxwell's equations and the forced heat equation, is considered. The dielectric properties of the material are assumed to be temperature-dependent, with this dependence being of a power law form. Asymptotic solutions of the governing equations are found in the high-frequency geometric-optics limit. These solutions are compared with numerical solutions of the governing equations, and good agreement is found.
