New European horizons in Mar's designing, 1716 to 1732

Abstract / Description of output

Living in Italy, France, Germany and Belgium after exile in 1716 Mar acquired a deeper knowledge and personal contact with Continental architecture. This impacted on his designing, although he retained a strong connection with Scottish architecture reinventing it in various idioms, and he employed Continental architects to draft some of his designs.
