Novel Bismuth-based tribological coatings for high performance internal combustion engine bearing applications

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Bismuth-based coatings are often used as lead-free overlay materials for half shell bearing of internal combustion engines due to their high resistance to fatigue and wear. The present work shows how different approaches can have an effect on the microstructure of said bismuthbased overlay coatings, consequently optimize their mechanical and tribological properties, enabling the manufacturing of bismuth-based overlays with wider thickness range and therefore further enhanced their performances for modern engine applications.
