Observation of the Decay ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œโˆ’โขยฏ๐œˆ๐œ

Abstract / Description of output

The first observation of the semileptonic ๐‘-baryon decay ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œโˆ’โขยฏ๐œˆ๐œ, with a significance of 6.1โข๐œŽ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3โ€‰โ€‰fbโˆ’1 of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The ๐œโˆ’ lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions. The ratio ๐’ฆ=โ„ฌโก(ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œโˆ’โขยฏ๐œˆ๐œ)/โ„ฌโก(ฮ›0
๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œ‹โˆ’โข๐œ‹+โข๐œ‹โˆ’) is measured to be 2.46ยฑ0.27ยฑ0.40, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The branching fraction โ„ฌโก(ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œโˆ’โข
ยฏ๐œˆ๐œ)=(1.50ยฑ0.16ยฑ0.25ยฑ0.23)% is obtained, where the third uncertainty is from the external branching fraction of the normalization channel ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œ‹โˆ’โข๐œ‹+โข๐œ‹โˆ’. The ratio of semileptonic branching fractions โ„›โก(ฮ›+๐‘)โ‰กโ„ฌโก(ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œโˆ’ยฏ๐œˆ๐œ)/โ„ฌโก(ฮ›0
๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œ‡โˆ’โขยฏ๐œˆ๐œ‡) is derived to be 0.242ยฑ0.026ยฑ0.040ยฑ0.059, where the external branching fraction uncertainty from the channel ฮ›0๐‘โ†’ฮ›+๐‘โข๐œ‡โˆ’โขยฏ๐œˆ๐œ‡ contributes to the last term. This result is in agreement with the standard model prediction.
