Abstract
In this chapter, we present a discussion on the processes of curriculum development and enactment for an online teacher education course aimed at Portuguese as an Additional Language (PAL) educators. These processes were guided by the following research questions: (1) which theoretical and pedagogical assumptions have been informing teacher education and development within the PAL field?; and (2) what implications can current approaches, especially those related to critical and intercultural pedagogies, have in teacher education in PAL?. By describing the curriculum design, we intend to bring some light to the theoretical assumptions on which the program relies, and also to specify the objectives and the syllabus for each class/module. The instances reached throughout the process of enactment will also be mentioned as a path for further studies. In doing so, we analyze how the choices made along with the curriculum development impact teacher education regarding pragmatics, and critical and intercultural pedagogies applied to the course.
