Abstract / Description of output

The application of optimizations methods is an essential part of today's energy system management. Power plants need to be operated optimally and need to adapt their production according to varying demands. At par with simulation models, thus optimization is of ever more increasing importance in today's operations. This article deals with two examples which exemplify the additional value that modern mathematical optimizations methods can provide with provably good, respectively globally optimal solutions.
