Abstract

The research project Orcadia and other Stories 13th Jan - 6th June 2014, Was a Solo Exhibition taking the form of survey show of my collaborative art practice with artist Neil Bromwich. I work as part of the collaborative artist practice Zoe Walker & Neil Bromwich. This project brought together a number of significant works in order to interrogate analyse and research the function of the art work as a reflexive framework through which to bring diverse sectors of the community together with experts and academics across disciplines in order to define alternative narratives around specific environments undergoing significant change. The project explores the extent to which our participatory art practice can collectively re-imagine specific environments and contexts. The exhibition was part of the major survey of Scottish art organised by Glasgow Life and the National Galleries of Scotland entitled ‘Generation, 25 years of Contemporary Art in Scotland’ that will accompany the Glasgow Commonwealth Games of 2014. Orcadia and other Stories researched the role of the public artwork as a tool to explore the specificity of site. As part of this exhibition the new commission Orcadia – A Game for Change specifically explored function of the artwork as a reflexive framework to bring together the public with experts in the sciences, the arts and folklore to define alternative narratives around specific environments undergoing significant change.
