N2 - Justifying the sample size of research studies in the health sciences is usually accomplished by means of a formal sample size calculation. However, developing these is not always easy and sometimes the sample size that comes out is unreasonably high. In this case study, I suggest some strategies that can be used to overcome problems with conducting sample size calculations, from the perspective of a consulting statistician.
