Abstract

The chapters included in this book drawing from case studies across Latin America invite us to reflect on the influence exerted by a wide diversity of political, environmental, geographical and social characteristics on energy systems, grounding the different struggles, injustices and potential solutions to specific territories. However, these chapters also present us with shared experiences and reflections on energy justice, and common narratives adopting different protagonists with similar faces across our region. A shared history of extcractivism, poverty, inequality and the systemic marginalization of indigenous communities are some of the common issues that previous chapters in this book not only identify as past issues shaping the present energy issues in Latin America, but also as shaping the future context of low-carbon transitions. In this way, the discussions from previous chapters might resonate across different territories, piercing and blurring national borders to highlight shared concerns of energy (in)justice within and beyond Latin America.
