Abstract

This was a work made specifically for the Rhubaba Edinburgh Art Festival show, Still life with flying objects. Curated by Lara McLoed, the group exhibition brought together new and existing work by artists Tim Dodds, Susie Green, Emma Hart and Susan Mowatt. Thinking about objects and why we are drawn to make them, the show presented work by artists who paint, weave, make films and build.
I was invited to show two existing works: large scale tapestries produced in my PG year 25 years ago, and a new work.
Practise, the new work, consists of interchangeable oak tablets mounted with small pieces of weaving: the type that look very simple but require skill to achieve. Some pieces are hung on a thin wooden baton and the others rest on the floor, propped up on the wall.
