Abstract

The inaugural EPSRC-funded research CHIME network annual workshop was a one-day research event for sharing work in music and human-computer interaction, with an emphasis on hands-on participation. The workshop provided an opportunity to hear the latest research in music and interaction; network with peers; get hands-on experience with participative demos; and share work and interests with representatives from music-interaction-related industry and charities.

This was the first CHIME annual workshop, following on from specialized in-person events, such as the workshop on Music Interaction and Physical Disability in May, as well as regular monthly online seminars from diverse invited researchers and practictioners in Music and HCI. The annual workshop was held physically at the Open University in Milton Keynes, and attracted 42 researchers from around the UK, Spain, Italy and the US. The workshop featured 14
hands-on participative demos, 6 posters, 9 research talks, a keynote from live coding pioneer Sam Aaron, and a distinguished industry panel.
