Abstract / Description of output

This chapter presents the design and implementation of the PROMISE PDKM (Product Data and Knowledge Management) system, the central component of the PROMISE architecture and approach, which is devoted to the integration and man- agement of product-related data from all life cycle phases to support comprehensive data analysis and to enhance business operations. The chapter begins by discussing the concept and the architecture of the PDKM system, its functional requirements, its specific components, and the communication requirements among the same components. Next covered is the semantic object model of the PDKM, also called PDKM SOM (alias PDKM System Object Model). This represents a conceptual abstraction of the data that the PDKM system must accommodate to satisfy the different requirements originating in the BOL (Beginning Of Life), the MOL (Middle Of Life), and the EOL (End Of Life) life cycle phases. The model is based on the PROMISE application scenarios and related demonstrators developed within the timeframe of the PROMISE EU project. The chapter concludes with some details on the prototypical implementation of the PDKM system.
