Abstract / Description of output
Rat Death Island, is part of our second series of This is Scotland for STV.
It is a humorous adventure film in epic locations with eccentric characters, environmental issues, fluffy puffin chicks and dead black rats at its core.
On Tom Nicolson's 21st birthday he inherited a tiny archipelago of islands, known as the Shiants, north of Scotland. But with this present he also inherited a huge problem. The Shiants are home to Europe's largest colony of puffins, but as fish numbers have depleted in the oceans around Scotland the population has become fragile and susceptible to attack from...the black rat.
The challenge with this film was to humanise an environmental/wild life story for mainstream TV.
